Welcome to my education page

1. Photohshop Touch-ups

Editing is a huge part of what I do and what you pay for. It's always been this rather elusive part of the job that is difficult to communicate to my clients so below I've provided some  photos to try to break it down a little better.  Below are some before and after photos, the top two may look extremely similar as I like for my editing to be subtle and not change a person's appearance but just make them look like a more ideal version of themselves.  the second two photos are a more detailed breakdown of the editing process. I do things like improving hair loss, tucking in a belly or creating a stronger jaw line in male subjects and highlighting cheek bones, giving a slight breast lift/reductions/enhancement or waist synch or slenderizing arms and thighs on women. If you have a particular request, like a tattoo that you don't want on your Bridal Portrait, or a scar that has always bothered you, don't hesitate to ask.

2. The benefits of a 2nd Photographer

Having two photographers at your wedding is not necessary but it is certainly a luxury that you may find totally worth it.  There are a few important moments that happen simultaneously and only one photographer can't get both. Aside from that it's also a bit of insurance that nothing will be missed and if one photographer is having a technical problem, like suddenly having to change their batteries or a flash over heating, there is another photographer on hand.
Below is an example of one of those simultaneous moments.  Brides always want to see their groom seeing them walk down the aisle in their gown for the first time, some grooms have a precious response to this vision. It is also so important to capture the bride with her dad as he gives her away.  This moment requires two photographers.

3. Photo list

below is a downloadable list of photos that we take at every wedding. Naturally, during any event, many special and spontaneous moments happen and no two weddings are exactly the same. We welcome you to add your unique requests to this form.  Let us know if you have out of town family or friends that you must have a photo of or if you have a special tradition or detail that you don't want us to miss.

4. Wedding Day Itinerary

You probably know your wedding day agenda forwards and backwards and although we know you are busy and have a lot on your plate we want to be up to speed as well. Let us know a  detailed schedule including times, locations/addresses and any instructions we may need to know. Include phone numbers for wedding coordinator, the Maid of Honor or Best Man in case of any last-minute questions or issues. Email the schedule out at least a day before the event if not before and/or print copies to bring with the day of.

5. Archiving your photos

I cannot encourage my clients enough to backup your Flash drives the second you receive it in the mail from us.  Although we archive your photos you never know what could happen.

6. The Unplugged Wedding

Picture
This is merely a suggestion and not at all something I require: You may want to suggest to your guests to avoid the photographer's frame during important highlight moments, to stay out of the aisle during the ceremony, and to perhaps not use flash during the ceremony. As you can see from the photo to the left, there were just too many back seat photographers during the cutting of the cake moment and it was hard for me to get a nice shot. Below is a link to a great article from the huffington post that illustrates these issues and offers some tactful solutions.

7. How to get the best out of your photographer.

'This is just a good article on how to:
1. Choose your photographer, chemistry matters, its important to like your photographer's personality and trust them. It's also a great idea, although not required, to book an engagement or bridal portrait with your photographer before the wedding so that you can bond and get to know each other better.  I even like to get a lunch or a coffee if time permits in the weeks before the wedding just to talk about the itinerary and details and have one last girl session before the big day.
2. Be aware that you are having your photograph taken on your wedding day even if you don't see your photographer taking the photo of you. With candid photography I am always lurking around shooting you and your friends and family, so try to smile, even when they are tightening that corset.
4. Feed your photographer.  After 5 hours of working, and our work is pretty physicallyl and mentally stressful we really need to eat something to keep our energy and personality happy.

This article really sums it up well, here is some recommended reading
